Rain and Cadavers and No money, oh my!

So as part of my course, we got the chance to go up to Brighton & Sussex Medical school to look at cadavers.. and it actually turned out to be a lot more interesting than I thought it would! The first half of the day was taken up with the standard PowerPoint lecture given by the standard BSMS lecturer  in the standard room but what I couldn't help but notice was how much nicer their class rooms were compared to ours... but alas I digress! Back to the bodies..

I have to admit that I was a lot more weirded out by seeing the cadaver than I thought I would be.. Due to some odd law that was retracted this year, the medical school wasn't allowed to keep more than a third of the original body so we had the torso. No head, no legs. Fine. But as we were being guided through the organic machinery that is our lungs, I couldn't help but think about the person as a whole.. but I won't go into that. What's more amusing is how straight after class, this random girl with whom I've never spoken remarked to me how the "meat" looked like chicken! What surprised me more, however, was that I replied it looked more like pork.. Now the fact that the thought of this person once having been alive kept creeping into my head doesn't bother me as much as straight after I came out I remarked on what animal product the cadaver resembled the most.. Either way it was a really interesting class and has kind of resparked the notion of potentially one day going to medical school! I still doubt it though, but we'll see!

On another note, I am still absolutely skint. Got up early this morning to see if money had come into my account and in case it hadn't, been prepared to walk up to Sussex uni. Luckily for me, but unluckily for my housemate Mike, Mike was late for school so I got to jump in the taxi with him which took me half way! Woohoo! And of course, rough rided it back to Brighton. All in all, I think this was a pretty good post for my first ever journal entry.
